Setu means bridge. A bridge can provide a connection between two spaces. It can provide safe passage over treacherous terrain. Setu Somatic Yoga aims to help build healing bridges within our students by providing yoga instruction focused on nervous system regulation and mental health symptom management. It bridges eastern philosophy and western medicine. It bridges mind and body. We treat the system, not just the symptom. This is yoga for all bodies, all abilities, all skill levels, from all walks of life.
When trauma occurs, it's common for certain connections between the brain and the body to become dysfunctional or break completely. This may result in physical symptoms often reported in diagnoses such as Anxiety Disorders, Major Depressive Disorders, PTSD, etc. Symptoms such as insomnia/sleeplessness, racing heart/palpitations, chronic pain, high blood pressure, shaking or pain in muscles or extremities, nausea or other digestive issues. Our somatic yoga sessions are designed to help students along the path to healing by reconnecting the mind and the body through a seamless blending of ancient yogic philosophy and modern scientific research. When the physical symptoms become manageable, the psychological healing can begin.
Yoga is more than just a physical practice - it's a path to greater self-awareness and self-acceptance. Somatics are a practice of body movement and intentional relaxation developed from the viewpoint that physiological disease could arise from psychological causes. Together, they create a powerful tool to use on a journey to healing. Choose from private sessions In-Studio, In-Home (client's home, instructor brings all props) or Online.
"True yoga is not about the shape of your body, but the shape of your life. Yoga is not to be performed; yoga is to be lived." - Aadil Palkhivala
